mented the benefits of exercise on the human body. But to what extent is it known that exercising in nature or green exercise or as it is called globally and officially “green exercise”, has multiple benefits for a person?
According to research data by Harilaos Kouthouris, professor, specializing in Kinetic Recreation, at the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, University of Thessaly, and Ioannis Giannakopoulos, professor of Physical Education (M.Sc.), various studies answer relevant questions and support new perspectives regarding the relationship between humans, physical activity and performing exercise in nature.
According to modern scientific studies, outdoor activity provides many benefits for human health by increasing the level of fitness with a comparatively lower level of perceived exercise. This means that the person is active by improving his physical condition in a free natural environment without realizing the real level of fatigue during the action, which is very important for continuing the exercise and not giving up the effort in a short period of time.
Some of the benefits of green exercise are that it improves mood and self-esteem, reduces stress, rests the brain, can be used as a natural medicine, positively changes behaviorIt is also more likely to lead more easily to lifelong adoption of the exercise, while it can be performed in a wide variety of different types of natural environments, such as forests, snowy landscapes, beaches and sandy beaches.
Perhaps the most widespread and oldest forms of green exercise, the researchers note, are the outdoor leisure activities organized by companies or other government or voluntary bodies and specializing in the provision of ‘green services’. Activities such as mountain biking, hiking, climbing, rafting, canoeing, skiing, diving, sailing, etc. are some of the many options available to someone who wants to escape from the “box” of their everyday life and get a small dose of action in nature
